Introductory tune –
A group of children [2 boys and 2 girls] are playing and one child comes in sad and downcast. He goes to sit aside. And the others notice him and approach him.
1st girl – Why are you sad?
Sad boy – A friend died. His family is sad and I feel very sorry for them.
2nd girl – Oh dear, May God console you all and grant you the fortitude to bear the loss.
Sad boy – Fortitude?
2nd girl – Yes, it is a gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us to bear wrongs and pains. It also gives us the courage to overcome all obstacles that may stand in the way of our sanctification.
Sad boy – What is the gift of the Holy Spirit?
1st boy – The gifts of the Holy Spirit complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them. It makes them docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
1st girl – They are docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit because these promptings are greater than the ideas and limitations of this world, which cannot understand or explain the things of the Spirit.
2nd boy – There are seven of them and they are – Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and the Fear of the Lord.
1st girl – The gift of wisdom helps us not to attach ourselves to the things that do not last but seek for thing that will last to eternity.
2nd girl – The gift of understanding enlightens our mind with the light of God’s Divine Truth.
1st boy – The gift of counsel helps us to choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining Heaven.
2nd girl – I told you earlier what the gift of fortitude is.
Sad boy – Yes, that it helps us to bear wrongs and pains and gives us the courage to overcome the obstacles that may stand in the way of our sanctification.
2nd girl – Right.
2nd boy – The gift of knowledge helps us to know God and know ourselves and grow perfect in the image of the saints.
1st boy – The gift of piety helps us to find the service of God sweet and enjoy showing God’s goodness to others.
1st girl – Finally, is the gift of the fear of God, which does not mean that He is terrifying.
All but sad boy laugh.
1st girl – [Continues…] The gift of fear fills us with a loving reverence towards God who Jesus says we should call Father.
2nd girl – Yes. And this gift of fear also helps us to avoid anything that may displease God because He created us and loves us so much that He gave His only Son to die for us.
1st boy – He then made us His children if we believe in His Son and obey Him.
2nd boy – He is a good God and the source of all good that we receive in life and in this world.
Sad boy – I understand now. A lot of things happen in this world that may make us lose our faith in God. So the Holy Spirit gives us His gifts to teach us God’s truth, His way and His life, so that we can remain steadfast in our faith.
All – Yes!!!!!!!!!!!
Song performance – Holy Spirit, Lord of Light
HOLY SPIRIT, LORD OF LIGHT – by Edward Caswall(1814-1878)
         Holy Spirit, Lord of light,
From Thy clear celestial height
Thy pure beaming radiance give.
Come, Thou Father of the poor,
Come with treasures which endure,
Come, Thou Light of all that live.
2.      Thou, of all consolers best,
Thou, the soul’s delightsome Guest,
Dost refreshing peace bestow.
Thou in toil art comfort sweet,
Pleasant coolness in the heat,
Solace in the midst of woe.
3.      Light immortal, Light divine,
Visit Thou these hearts of Thine,
And our inmost being fill.
If Thou take Thy grace away,
Nothing pure in man will stay;
All his good is turned to ill.
4.      Heal our wounds; our strength renew;
On our dryness pour Thy dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away.
Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray.
5.      Thou, on those who evermore
Thee confess and Thee adore,
In Thy sevenfold gifts descend:
Give them comfort when they die,
Give them life with Thee on high;
Give them joys that never end.
