YOUNG MINISTERS: SPIRIT OF GOD

Based on THE FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Introductory tune –

Some [2] boys and [2] girls are playing.
A boy walks in eating a banana and holding a bunch more in hand.
A little girl from those playing goes to ask for one.

Little girl – Please give me one banana.
Banana boy – No.

The little girl begins to cry.
Others playing see this and stop playing. They approach the banana boy and the little girl.

1st girl – Why do you not give her a banana when you have some more with you?
Banana boy – Why should I give her?
1st boy – Because it will be kind and generous of you to do so.
Banana boy – Why should I be kind and generous?
2nd girl – Kindness and generosity are 2 of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Banana boy – What are the fruits of the Holy Spirit?

The little girl sniffs her wet nose and looks from the group of friends to the Banana boy.

2nd boy – The fruits of the Holy Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as our first taste of eternal glory.
1st Girl – There are 12 of them and they are: charity, joy, peace and patience.
1st boy – There are also kindness, goodness, generosity and gentleness.
2nd girl – And finally there are – faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity.
Banana boy – Why should I bother about these fruits of the Holy Spirit when I have a banana fruit with me?
2nd girl – These fruits of the Holy Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as our first fruits of eternal glory.
Banana boy – You’ve said that before.
2nd boy – They are all good feelings. You must believe us.
Banana boy – So you mean by being generous with my banana I will bear these fruits.
1st girl – You will bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit when you practice His Godly and moral virtues.
Banana boy – And one of His virtues is doing the work of charity, which is also a fruit you bear from the act?
The 4 – Yes!!!!
Banana boy – Okay then.
He looks kindly at the little girl now turned to him.
Banana boy – [Continues…] I’m sorry little friend. [And offering a banana,] Please have a banana.
Little girl – [All smiles,] Thank you! [She takes it and dances out happily.]
Banana boy – [Smiling too,] It feels good to see her happy and I’m glad it is this simple gesture that makes her so happy.
The 4 – And that is a fruit of the Holy Spirit – Joy in the heart.
Banana boy – If only we would all accept and abide by the virtues of the Holy Spirit the world will be a heaven on earth with everyone enjoying these good feelings, these good fruits.

They perform the song – Spirit of God …
The Banana boy starts the first verse.
SPIRIT OF GOD
1.      Spirit of God in the clear running water
Blowing to greatness the trees on the hill.
Spirit of God in the finger of morning:
Fill the earth, bring it to birth,
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But the breath of the Spirit blowing in me.
2.      Down in the meadow the willows are moaning
Sheep in the pastureland cannot lie still.
Spirit of God, creation is groaning:
Fill the earth, bring it to birth,
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But the breath of the Spirit blowing in me.
3.      I saw the scar of a year that lay dying
Heard the lament of a lone whippoorwill.
Spirit of God, see that cloud crying:
Fill the earth, bring it to birth,
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But the breath of the Spirit blowing in me.
4.      Spirit of God every man’s heart is lonely
Watching and waiting and hungry until
Spirit of God, man longs that you only
Fulfill the earth, bring it to birth,
And blow where you will.
Blow, blow, blow till I be
But the breath of the Spirit blowing in me.
